The Channel is Open

I love to try on quotes. Some of them are just for the moment that we read them, a moment of medicine. Others stick with us and become personal mantras for a time. And still others are intricately woven into the very fabric of our being, the quote itself wakes up something in us that we are seeing for the first time, or had long since forgotten. One of the quotes that spoke to me for many years was this one. There is a vitality, a life-force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all of time this expression is unique. and if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and be lost. The world will not have it! It is not your business to determine how good it is nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open.

Martha Graham

Time after time, this quote has helped me to identify when the channel is blocked, when I have become too busy with other things and am not honoring this unique and intrinsic need to let my vitality and creativity flow forth. I have just had one of these reclamations, and therein lies the genesis of this blog. It is my business to keep it mine clearly and directly, to keep the channel open. Yes. I recently read the book #essentialism by Greg McKeown. I had already been making the trek for many years towards a simpler life, but since having had babies, and opening a yoga studio that this November will celebrate 5 years, my life has become very very full, and it is a perfect time to be meditating upon what is essential and what is not. And also upon what the most essential contribution I can make to the world is. And how to free up all of the nonessential things in my life. This is tough work. And I'm excited to share more about my path. Because one of the things that I have known for quite some time, and is now moving front and center, is that it is essential that I write.

Thank you so deeply for reading and I look forward to what will unfold in the days ahead.
