Martha Graham once said, "Above all else, keep the channel open." Megan Callahan does just that. Her self expression and energy flow in many forms; her life long love of music and performance also show in her work as a theater artist. In addition to performance art in its many forms, Megan is a writer, holistic care practitioner and teacher.
Megan was born and raised in New Jersey. She attended Ramapo College majoring in American Studies and Theater. From there she went on to study Massage and Reiki at The Institute for Therapeutic Massage, an affiliate of The University of Medicine and Dentistry. She also went on to earn her Master of Fine Arts degree at Wayne State University in Detroit, MI.
Megan began studying the Michael Chekhov Technique, a psycho-physical approach to acting that works with imagination and possibility, while in graduate school. She has come to love this work and enjoys implementing these techniques in musical and theatrical rehearsal and performance.
She continues to seek out and express the ways in which the magic of life and art intertwine. Megan believes the two can break the traditional barriers between social and cultural boundaries, as well as between artistic mediums. While her studies have been varied, in every one she seeks deep exploration of the various facets of humanity and experience.
“Arts education and access to music and the arts early in life literally helped me through some of the roughest times of adolescence. This is a vital outlet for young and old people alike.” Megan says. She is committed to people not only having access to their inner artist, but the means to voice it as well. For this reason, she strives to raise awareness about the importance of living wages for artists, creating safe space for artistic expression on a community level, and the philanthropic opportunity that exists in combining live performance with raising funds for charities and socially conscious organizations.
